Are you paying for lines you don’t use anymore?

Have a look round the office – are there any white telephone jack boxes on the walls with no phones plugged into them? If so get a spare phone and plug it in. Is there a dial tone? if there is that means there is a live line there – ask yourself do you still need that line? because you will certainly be paying for it!

Check your bill for any unnecessary charges

Next time a telephone bill comes in, take the opportunity to analyse the call usage. Check how much has been spent against each telephone line number and identify any that have a very low call spend. Ask yourself ‘Do we really need this line - or could we be saving line rental?

Look out for Premium rate numbers

Calls starting with 0900 are mostly attached to competition lines, gambling etc and normally attract call costs in the region of £1.00 per minute or more. You can get your current service provder to put a call bar on these lines to prevent any misuse. This is a free service for Clear Telecom customers.

Minimum call charges

Look down the phone bill and see how many short calls you make - how much are you being charged for them? Chances are you will be charged a 3p minimum call rate. (Clear Telecom minimum call rate is 1p).

Billing by the second

How long do your calls last? - if you make a call that lasts 4 minutes 1 second - are you being charged for 5 minutes? Many carriers charge by the minute. Clear Telecom charges by the second.
